Middle Years Program

Middle Years Program (MYP)

Every growing mind needs space to question, explore, and connect — and our MYP program empowers students to do just that.

Our Middle Years Program is designed to help students discover their strengths by exploring a wide range of subjects. With a strong academic framework and inquiry-driven approach, students gain the skills, knowledge, and self-awareness needed to make informed subject choices for their high school years. By the end of MYP, they are confident, prepared, and ready to take on the next stage with purpose.

Our Curriculum

In our Middle Years Program, students begin shaping their academic identity through exploration, self-discovery, and skill-building—laying the groundwork for confident subject choices in high school.

At Sequoia International School, our Middle Years Programme (MYP) offers a balanced and challenging framework designed to support students in the critical transition from primary to high school. Rooted in the internationally recognized IGCSE syllabus and enriched with our own in-house learning materials, the curriculum is tailored to meet the diverse academic needs and language backgrounds of our students.

Our MYP structure emphasizes both academic rigor and holistic development. Students engage with a broad range of subjects, allowing them to explore different disciplines, develop essential skills, and build a strong foundation for future specialization. A key strength of the program is its emphasis on inquiry-led learning and real-world application, promoting critical thinking, independence, and a sense of purpose in every learner.

A distinctive feature of the MYP at Sequoia is our tailored language program. English is offered as either a First Language (FLE) or English as a Second Language (ESL), with students placed into one of three ability-based groups for more effective learning. Malay and Mandarin are similarly differentiated, with four proficiency-based groupings. Malay is taught at SPM, PT3, and IGCSE levels, while Mandarin is divided into advanced, intermediate, and beginner streams—ensuring every student receives the right level of challenge and support.

In preparation for subject specialization in the upper years, all MYP students (M1–M3) study Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as core subjects. This early exposure cultivates scientific thinking and eases the transition into high school-level content.

The following subjects are offered in our Middle Years Program program:
